Prof. Dr. Tim Vanbellingen

Prof. Tim Vanbellingen is a leading expert in gerontechnology and rehabilitation, serving as a professor at the ARTORG Center for Biomedical Engineering Research (https://www.artorg.unibe.ch/), within the Gerontechnology & Rehabilitation group, at the University of Bern, Switzerland. He also holds the position of Head of Scientific Development at VAMED Switzerland (https://www.vamed.ch/forschung-innovation/forschungsteam/).
Prof. Vanbellingen earned his PhD in Neurosciences in 2013 through a joint program between the Universities of Fribourg and Bern. In 2017 he received the Venia Docendi (Habilitation) in Gerontechnology and Rehabilitation at the Faculty of Medicine, and since 2022 he has been Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Bern. His research primarily focuses on upper limb rehabilitation for patients with central neurological conditions, with a particular emphasis on Parkinson’s disease. He has authored or co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications (45 as first or last author) and leads several multidisciplinary research projects.
In addition to his research, Prof. Vanbellingen teaches Neurotechnology in the Master of Biomedical Engineering program at the University of Bern. He is also a guest lecturer at the University of Basel and the Bern University of Applied Sciences and regularly organizes workshops at neurorehabilitation centers.
He serves as a board member of the Swiss Movement Disorders Society and as an advisory board member of Parkinson Schweiz. Prof. Vanbellingen is also actively involved in several scientific committees and initiatives
